Early Bird

For some absurd reason, I was up at the ungodly hour (for me!) of 7:55am. It was probably due to hubby's alarm clock that kept going on and on and on...literally. Hubby was knocked the f-out and the annoying buzz of the alarm left me suddenly lying wide-eyed awake in bed. I figured I might as well get my day started. In the hour or so that I've been up, I've already done some classwork and I'm about to cook a pancake breakfast. This is definitely messing with my body right now considering that I'm depriving it of another five hours. 'Tis strange 'cuz I've got nothing major happening today. It's not like I was awakened by some kind of anxiety- I just woke up early. Weird.

Ya'll know what's going to happen, right? After breakfast and doing some cleaning around our place, this burst of energy that I'm feeling is going to spiral downward and I'm going to head back to the warmth of my bed and just crash. Plus, this'll definitely screw up how my evening will play out. Gosh, that may mean I may actually go to sleep at a decent hour, say, 11pm-ish or midnight. Talk about absurd, people..shocking actually. That'd be way too normal...for me, at least.

As I try to figure out the rest of my day and struggle with early morning sarcastic banter from hubby, I wish ya'll a wonderful day.

Employment Update

'Tis good news everybody- so good that my dad, as well as myself, had to thank the Lord for it! The teaching position for the summer school program that I interviewed for has a happy ending after all. Funny thing is, I had applied for a Para position, aka, classroom aide. Yet, while I'm talking to my site supervisor, he's talking about creating lesson plans, planning activities, and all these other responsibilities that Paras DO NOT do. I actually had to interrupt the man, respectively of course, and ask him to confirm my actual position. Turns out that I was turned down for the Para position and given the Instructor one instead! How sweet is that?! Now be it that it's only a summer job, nine weeks to be exact, I definitely see it as getting my foot in the door. Plus, the difference in pay of a few dollars makes a big difference, yes? As hubby would sarcastically say, I can now get the Big Mac meal, instead of the Happy meal! Lol!

From what I know thus far, this gig sounds pretty cool. I work during the second part of the day which means my hours begin at noon til about 5:30pm. Noon! With my screwed up and abnormal sleeping habits, this fits me just perfectly! Plus, to be honest, I think I would've had a difficult time transitioning to no job to full blown 35 hours. Yes, I used to work those kinds of hours, but I have gotten real used to being unemployed for almost an entire school year. Sad, isn't it? The major plus of all this is that I've used this time to really focus on finishing up my Masters. It's hard to believe that I'm literally halfway through the program, just seven more classes left. By the end of January or early Feb of 2005, yours truly will have earned an M.A. in Education.

Needless to say, I'm excited. Like I said, it's a nine-week teaching position. Turns out that I will have a group of 25 4th graders. This district uses a thematic approach in their teaching. This means we could spend an entire week studying about one particular topic while integrating a lesson or activity in subjects like Math, Reading, Writing, etc. And did I mention that I could help decide the areas of study? Ya'll know that I'm going to incorporate some cultural aspect in there somehow, preferably Philippine folk dancing. There are also scheduled field trips once a week, too, so hopefully I'll get a chance to wander about different places in MN.

Training starts up the first week of June. I'm excited, nervous, anxious all at the same time. I just hope that I haven't lost it, you know? Not being around kids or in a classroom environment these past eight months has got me all jittery, but I hope it all comes back. Thanks for all of your prayers for this one- an answered prayer is a beautiful thing.

Iron Chef America

Have ya'll been watching this on Food Network? I have to honestly say that when I first saw the original Iron Chef, I found all the voiceovers and translations to be too corny for my taste. But as my interest in cooking started growing, I'd watch for the reason of seeing the different dishes the iron chefs would whip out in yes, only an hour's time. I think 'twas a few years back when William Shatner, aka Capt. of the Enterprise and TJ Hooker (LOL!), became the host of an iron chef show and though I didn't watch it, I heard lots of people making a big stink about it. Needless to say, it didn't last too long.

Some cooking show producers thought it would be dope to bring the iron chef idea across to American shores and thus, Iron Chef America was born. At this point, I've become a huge fan of Food Network. It's become one of my newest addictions (next to Trading Spaces and other home/design shows!) and have replaced the soap operas of old. 'Course, the new show would be based on the original one. But the one major thing that caught my eye was the person who'd be the new Chairman.

I had happened upon The FlavorOnline and there was this article on a Mark Dacascos. Who is he? He's a martial arts figure, an actor, and as it turns out, the new Chairman for Iron Chef America. Oh, and by the way, he's Filipino! How cool is that? On the show itself, he talks about his "uncle" who taught him and passed down important tools that would help him be a good chairman, y'know, for dramatics sake, but people, ya'll gotta check it out. Now, being that his role is a small one, it just makes me proud to see some kababayan out there in mainstream television.

Festival of Nations

I'm back in the circuit of Philippine folk dancing and will be performing this weekend for the Festival of Nations. Though I don't have all the details, it sounds very much like the Ethnic Dance Festivals held at the Palace of Fine Arts in da city. I was checking out the website and was surprised at the diversity of the lineup. I'm excited because I've only performed with CSFA one other time prior. Browse the website and check out the different cultural groups that are representing. They've also got the menu at the Ethnic Cafe that they have over there, too...first thing I noticed was that they spelled "adobo" wrong. Funny, I thought "adobe" was the material used for some houses in Mexico! lol!

Interview Update

As luck would have it, I was 5 minutes late for the interview. Not a good way to get things started, but thankfully, the ones conducting the interview were running late, too.

Had two very nice ladies interview me, although one had the lazy eye action goin' on. A tad bit distracting. Wasn't quite sure which eye to focus on and I could never tell if she was looking at me or her colleague. Lol! I did have to spend the first minute on the pronunciation of my first and last name, but then again, I'm no stranger to that. 'Tis the story of my life. Right off the bat we discussed the whole "What brought you to Minnesota?" question. It never ceases to amaze me how shocked people are when they learn I'm from CA. It's the same old thing- "Why MN?!" Goes to show how much love these Minnesotans have for their state, eh?

I told them a lil' about myself and basically tried to wow them with my background and experience. They threw different scenarios at me and I felt confident in my responses. When they asked what special talent I had that could be integrated into the summer program, I automatically went with Philippine folk dancing. The site supervisor who was taking notes seemed to perk up and I could tell that this was something totally different than what they're used to.

The position that I was interviewing for was a paraprofessional, aka, classroom aide. Of course, to kids, there really is no difference. They looked over my resume and said that I was basically overqualified for the position that I was going for. They began suggesting that if I was interested, I should apply for their fall positions and even sign up to be on the substitute teacher list. I voiced my concerns over my lack of certification and they brushed it off saying that it didnt' matter. For this particular district (public school, mind you), they look at educational background and classroom experience. Also, people who work during the summer program usually transition into the regular school program, too. With all that info, I began to get very excited!

I should learn by the end of the week if I got the position for summer school. I don't want to get my hopes up high, but this would be great at getting my foot in the door and getting back into the classroom. For now, the waiting begins! Argh! Keep your fingers crossed!

April Showers

It's just been a downpour all day making for a really blah day. I'm relieved that the tornado watch is over (for now), but it looks like the next few days will be wet ones. Just one of those days where I've literally stayed in my pajamas all day. Tamad, di ba?

So what's with the Tagalog? Y'know, I've always been told that the more you are surrounded by the language, the chances of actually learning to speak it increases. Eh, I've never really believed in that simply 'cuz my mom has been talking to me in Tagalog all my life, sans the moments I'd need an explanation of certain words or phrases. Other than that, I've always been around it and though I can hear and say things in my mind, 'twas a totally different story once I tried to actually verbalize it.

I won't even go into the many times revisited by some people at our church where they simply don't get it, simply cannot comprehend, simply can't get it through their thick ass skulls that just 'cuz hubby and I don't speak the language doesn't make us less Pinoy. Ugh- let's not even go there...

But hubby has been talking to his client in the Philippines lately and when he leaves emails or phone messages, he makes the effort to find out how to say something however Taglish it may be. When hubby or myself get tired of racking our brain with, "Oh, I know that one! It's on the tip of my tongue!," hubby goes ahead and consults noneother than Pare Ibalik. Plus, if you've ever checked out Ibalik's blog, it's mostly written in Tagalog anyways- so you can imagine just how long it takes me to read it! Lol! Okay, I'm not that bad, but it does take me a bit to get thru it. Thank goodness it's mostly phonetic! So with peeps at church, Ibalik's blog, and hubby getting galing-galing with his own Tagalog, it's no wonder and it probably wouldn't be such a big surprise if I came back to CA being more fluent than I already am- and that's saying a lot! Lol! Okay, maybe not...

Employment Update

I'm a bit excited for tomorrow- got me an interview for a summer program position. I had actually sent a resume for this back in January, but hadn't thought much about it 'til the phone call this morning. As far as teaching positions for the next school year is concerned, there's a school near our place that is hiring a lower elementary teacher. April is the month when they review teacher contracts and by month's end, I'm hoping to get an interview going with them. I'm actually keeping my fingers crossed for that school because of the location and because it's a Christian school.

In any case, wish me luck for tomorrow. I'm guessing it's about time I start contributing financially...although I must say that's it's been cool, real cool, to just focus on school work. I've gotten used to it real quick! Thanks hubby! =)

Slushy Banana Brain

Like my title? I actually got this from a classmate of mine at UOP. That is how she described how she was feeling after the PRAXIS testing we all took today. For me, that is a major understatement. I am actually quite disappointed with myself because I basically did everything that I was NOT supposed to do prior to the test. Let's break it down...I procrastinated in buying a prep book, I started actively studying on Wednesday (as in just three days ago!), I was up until about 2:30am this morning cramming, and because of all the anxiety I was having, kept waking up every hour. By 6am, I was up to take a shower and hubby got me to the test center by 7:30am. By the time I was seated in the classroom, I was about ready to shut my eyes and go to sleep. Not good. Plus, it didn't help that during standardized testing, the proctor is required to read exactly from the booklet and the dude we had just droned on and on. On the real? 'Twas rough...really rough for me. I don't feel confident that I passed any of the sections, especially Math. We're given 30 minutes to write an essay, but by the time I finished organizing my thoughts together, the proctor announced that there were only 10 minutes left! Holy crap! Usually, I would be happy with my performance on these kinds of tests...but not this time. That sucks. I'm so bummed. I think a Target run is in order....

Blog Makeover

Ain't this purty? I've been wanting to change the bubble blog skin ever since my sis said, "I don't like it." Boo! Actually, sometimes when I would check it, it'd be so light and one could rarely see the bubbles anyways. Plus, with spring making its way over to MN, I thought this was very appropo.

btw: doesn't it look girly? Sometime between moving here and my birthday, I've accumulated this liking to girly-but-not-too-girly things...egads! What's happening to me?! Started out with the color pink and now I'm on to flowers. Did I also mention that I've been looking into skirts at the mall, too? Aiya...what'll it be next?

Thanks yet again to hubby for another blog makeover! You're da best! Much love...

hey Ate- how do you like this one?
Tad Bit Stressed

Yesterday was my first day back to school. We're always given a week off between classes and I tried my best to enjoy it as much as possible. All of the courses that I've taken thus far have been challenging, but the last class, Reading and Language Arts, was evenmoreso. Plus, it was 8 weeks long! Albeit that ain't as long as regular classes at a university, but for online, that's long. It was nice that my break coincided with Easter and it was relaxing to sleep in and wake up late....oh wait, I already to do that!

This next class is on Math and Science. Ugh. Math was never really a strength of mine. In high school, I was good to go 'til I hit Geometry. From there, it was all downhill for me- Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Chemistry...honestly, I only passed these classes with the help of some friends who didn't mind "an occasional peek" at their homework. After passing the required Math in college, I vowed to never take another one. Ever.

Of course, this class is different. I will be the first to admit that taking classes online has been da best experience! Yes, it was difficult at first to talk to, but not talk to my classmates and budgeting my time to do my work is still something I'm trying to master. I've learned so much more than I did when I was taking credential classes at State! In any case, this Math and Science class I'm taking focuses on the teaching aspect ot it all- the various strategies and even the basic understanding of it. My hope is that my perspective of Math will change throughout the course. We'll see.

As part of my efforts to become a certified teacher here in MN, I have to take a bunch of standardized tests- gosh how I hate these! Tomorrow, I take a total of three on the Praxis Series tests. These include: Math, English, and Writing. I got myself a prep book at Borders, but silly me, just bought it a few days ago. I spent the entire day reviewing my Math...boy oh boy. Y'know, I'm not a complete idiot when it comes to Math, but it's one of those things where I seriously lack the patience to figure anything mathematical out. Again, I did well on the basics up to algebra. Surprisingly, I did well on angles, formulas, etc, but y'know what got me? Word problems and percentages! I find myself resorting to 3rd grade strategies, but c'mon, who can ever really figure out the answer to the infamous, "Two trains leave the station at different times in different directions...." Screw that- who fricken cares?!

For some reason, I'm not too worried about the English and Writing sections. Should I be? Am I being overly confident? I sure hope not. Although when I was reviewing the Language grammar rules/usage/syntax, etc, there were quite a few rules I have been disregarding. Shocking! Lol! Honestly, I just have anxiety for the Math section.

I've got to be at the testing center at 7:30am tomorrow morning. 'Tis really an ungodly hour when I'm used to waking up by noon! Shiet. I should try my best and get a good night's sleep tonight so I'll be refreshed for the test. Keep your fingers crossed, would ya? May the formulas work and numbers calculate and may the rules of grammar somehow not be deleted from my brain until Sunday. Wish me luck ya'll...I'm gonna need it.

Birthday Shout-Outs

Happy Birthday to my number one roomie, Heidi! I met Heidi back in 1990 during a student exchange program to the former U.S.S.R. 'Twas through the Friendship to Friendship Caravan that we met- 6 of us from San Francisco and about 16 of 'em from Connecticut put together for three weeks. Heidi was my roommate for most of the trip. Being that this was really my first time being away from home, she helped make my transition easier...plus, if it weren't were Heidi and her "F*ck curfew!" attitude, I would've never had my first drinking experience of shooting cognac! Did I mention that I was only 16 at the time?! See what a good influence she was! Lol! Though we lost track of each other for a bit, we've maintained our friendship through the years. Hubby and I even got to visit her back East for a day and I got to meet her family, her hubby, and adorable kids. She'll always be my number one roomie! Happy birthday party girl Heidi- and no cage dancing for you! Much love...

Birthday wishes go out to Ibalik, my fellow Cutting Edge-r! I find it hilarious that I'm always referring to Pare as my fellow back in da day hip-hopper dancer budddy when we didn't even dance together. I was in the original group while Pare came in later on...when the group was actually getting good! 'Tis all good though, Ibalik is also fellow CA boy and fellow Bay Area, so that's where I see and feel our bond! He's been dope in inviting us out and about, meeting new people, and just hanging out. Good good friend that Ibalik! Happy Birfday Pare, aka G-Pera! Much love...

Belated Easter Wishes

Happy Belated Easter to all ya'll! It has definitely been a whirlwind of things happening left and right out yonder that has left me blogless for a few days and for that, I apologize.

Finally got to watch "The Passion of the Christ." I remember hearing about how controversial this movie was going to be and how graphic the portrayal of Christ's beating would be. I honestly wasn't sure I wanted to see the movie at all. I was having all this anxiety. After it started showing, all these panel discussions started popping up to basically talk about Mel Gibson's interpretation. All these religious scholars and church groups wanted to discuss the impact the movie was making and to analyze the passion itself. One issue is that of Christ "substituting" His death for all of us. Questions to reflect and think about include the following:

1. Cannot man suffer for his own sins? Yes or No and why?

2. Can man atone for his own sin?

3. Is this not unfair to make the innocent suffer for our sins against His will?

4. Could God not just forgive the sinner without the terrible death on the cross of Calvary?

5. Is it not impossible to transfer guilt from a guilty one to an innocent one?

6. If each sin requires eternal death, how could Christ suffer an innumerable number of deaths in the few short hours of Calvary?

"The Passion of the Christ" was such an intense and powerful movie. Once the tears started to flow, they just couldn't stop until the end of it. There were even moments where I was sobbing quietly because I was just too overwhelmed and overcome at what happened to Jesus. I appreciated the flashback moments between Jesus and his mother, Mary. Although I am not a mother just yet, I cannot fathom the pain and anguish she must have felt to watch her son suffer so much. Was the movie graphic? Absolutely. But to watch the "reality" of how Jesus was beaten, scourged, and crucified makes what He did for each of us, for me, so powerful. Those images will forever be etched in my mind. After watching this movie, I felt so much conviction in my heart and it made me wonder, "How could people NOT believe?"

I don't think that Mel Gibson decided to do this movie with the intention to convert people, but from what I've heard, it has made non-believing atheists go to church. For many others, it has affirmed and reaffirmed their belief in God and His awesome power. As the credits were rolling, I still had tears in my eyes. I just felt so thankful and blessed that Christ died to save us all from sin despite our unworthiness. I totally recommend that everyone go see this movie, with the exception of small children of course. I believe that just to see for yourself what probably happened to Jesus will touch even the hardest of hearts.

Prayer Requests

It has been an eerie course of nature that tragedies within our families occur during the first few months of the new year. Just last week, my mom's brother had a stroke which has left him paralyzed on one side of his body. Turns out that while he was working in the garden, he began to feel some numbness and called his daughter in the house via cell phone. She called 911 and my uncle was taken to the hospital. From what they tell me, his prognosis is good. In fact, he's so stubborn and impatient that he feels that he is able to do things on his own already and is feening for solid foods. He actually fell and got a black eye 'cuz he tried moving about on his own. My sis says his spirits are positive- he even challenged his brother (who also had a stroke and is in a wheelchair) to a race. Lol!

Early Monday morning around 1:30ish in the morning, we got a call from Mare DeJesus. Turns out that Pare had been having chest pains all morning and drove himself to the hospital. After doctors checked him out, turns out that he had a heart attack. Hubby and I went to the hospital to help drive the fam home. Again, it's good that he went to the hospital early on, but the fact that he's only 37 is scary. We've been spending time with Mare and the kids, trying to help out where we can. It really is hard when there ain't no family around...

My Mom and Pops are off to another pilgrimage. From what I hear, they may be snow where they're going! I told them that it's their chance to feel Minnesota weather- lol! Please pray that they have a safe journey free from harm or sickness and that they return home safely.

Last, but not least, I got semi-traumatized as we were driving home from the hospital the other night. Why? 'Cuz this white cat happened to be trying to cross the freeway...and well, you can figure out the rest. I was following hubby as he drove Mare's car home and in a blink of an eye, I saw this white cat hesitate as his car passed, but as he did, it went and...oh gosh, it was terrible! Just hearing the "doog" sound as I was traveling about 70mph made my stomach all queasy. Well, lil' kitty cat had no chance and I just hope that death was instant. I felt really bad considering that it was Easter and all...but kitty cat heaven for him or her now...

Please continue to keep these people in your prayers. Prayer is such a powerful thing and does make a difference. Much love....

Drum Roll Please....

As promised, here's a pic of my new tatt!

Birthday Shout-Outs

April has a ton of birthdays of some family and friends. Yesterday was Mrs. Sharon's 29th birthday! This fellow pinay sista and I became really tight friends at Cornerstone. She teaches 1st grade out there and I don't know how she does it, but she's got a good command of her class with that quiet and soft voice of hers. Hahaha, not me...when those lil' knuckleheads get too noisy for my standards, they will feel my wrath! NOT! I'm not as mean as I play off to be, but I don't let things slide either. When I speak, I expect everyone to listen up, know what I mean? We all have our personal styles of teaching so it's all good. In any case, HAPPY 29TH BIRTHDAY, MRS. SHARON!!! Miss you- much love....

Tomorrow is Mrs. Emily's 28th birthday. I first met her in Barangay back in da day. She became a lil' sis during our PACE days- got to see the beginning stages of her relationship with now hubby, and she was even a bridesmaid at my wedding. Although she's kickin' it in sunny Hawaii, I totally miss this chick. For someone who was younger than myself, she was definitely mature and wise for her age. She's a great listener and a great friend. Much birthday love to you, Em!

New Decisions

A few weeks prior to my birthday, I was staring at myself in the mirror. I'm not one to be so vain, but has anyone ever told you that us Pinays and Pinoys age gracefully? Lol! I look at all the puti people over here and people my age are looking so o-l-d! And perhaps it's just Midwest life, but women be punching out babies left and right. I used to joke with my sister that back in our parents' generation, it was the norm to have 10+ kids. My mom is the oldest of 11 and my dad is the fourth out of 12. You rarely hear about families with four or more kids nowadays....but oh no, not here in MN. A couple weeks back when hubby and I went to Mickey D's, we overheard the cashier lady talking about her 12 kids......12 kids! Like that movie, "Cheaper By the Dozen?!" Goodness me, although I haven't had one yet, two or three may be a possibility...but 12?! I just cannot fathom.

Anyways, I was reflecting on the whole turning 30 bit and I wanted to make some "big" changes in my life....as if moving to the Midwest wasn't life changing already! Well, many of you know that I have a thing for earrings and ear pierces and that I have a total of 7, yes? Well, I decided to close up three of 'em to now have only 2 on each ear. Now as insignificant as this may be to many, this is a huge thing for me! It was bad enough when I let my cartilage pierce close. Honestly, my ears feel naked. I'm actually trying to get back to my high school habit of wearing hoops, but I can't bring myself to buy them huge ones like I used to wear. I've settled for some medium sized silver ones. As funny as this may sound, I not only felt "naked" and I felt that something was missing. And so, I did the next best thing to compensate for that "loss......." I got another tattoo!

I've been wanting another one for some time now. It's true what they say about tattoos- once you get one, you'll always want another one. Just like they say about Doritos- "you can't have just one." I think I was like this with my ear pierces. There was a time when I had two cartilage pierces...then after I got those, hella people started getting them! Not to say that I "started the trend," but you just notice it more after you yourself get 'em.

The first tatt I got was when I was in my second year of college. I was 19. I really loved what the "clauddaugh" or Irish wedding band stood for, so I got that in the middle of my back. If you don't know what that looks like, it's a heart being held by two hands and on top of the heart is a crown. The heart stands for love, the hands represent friendship, and the crown is for loyalty. I clearly remember the day I got it- 'twas at Jerry's Tattoo in da city. Right when you walk in, all you see is a bunch of ZZ Top biker guys. But when they start talking to you, they're so sweet! "How are you, darlin! What can I do for you today?" You just wouldn't think....

The second tatt I got was with hubby. We actually have the same one. No, it ain't our names tattooed-nah uh! We both do not believe in the whole name thing on bodies...unless it's your own, your kids, your mom, etc...but I've heard of way too many incidents where people get their significant other's names tattooed just for them to break up later on. Totally not cool. We both got the chinese character for "eternity-" hubby has it right at the nape of his neck and I've got mine in the middle of my lower back. Awwwww, now isn't that sweet?

Anyways, my new tatt is on my back between my two shoulder blades. In the middle, I have the sun from the Philippine flag all done up in black. On the left side, I have the word "Pinay" and on the right side, I have the word "lakas" ("strength" in tagalog) both in alibata. "Pinay" and "lakas" 'cuz I am a strong Pinay woman. Plus, I have to represent, you know? First it was Irish, then Chinese, and now, I have my Filipino. It looks really good if I say so myself! Now ya'll don't have to worry that I'm going to end up with hella tatts all over my body....just a couple more and I'll be good to go! Lol! Hmmm...I wonder what I should get next time.....

Hubby also got a new tatt today, too. He got the Philippine sun (different from mine!) on his right arm with our last name in alibata. Many people might say that alibata tatts are so overrated, but honestly, I don't think they are. His looks really tight, especially when he wears his basketball cut-offs. For hubby, it's cool to show 'em off! Hopefully we'll be able to post some pics of them after they've healed.

Birthday Recap

It's always nice when people remember your birthday.....especially when it doesn't come with any kinds of April Fool jokes! In fact, I got phone calls from family and good friends that put the icing on the cake. I got the chance to talk with my sis, my niece, Mommy Hernandez, Dimples, Ms. Voodoo, and Ibalik. That doesn't include all the texts, voicemails, phone messages, and emails either! (Got an email from my parents, too! WT??? Lol!) I even got a birthday card in the mail from my Lola! Whoa- I can't remember when that happened last, but it was a very nice surprise! Thanks again to all for remembered my big 3-0!

Hubby prepared the bomb dinner....lobster tails, prime rib, garlic mashed potatoes. We even got an ice cream cake, although not Baskin Robbins, but 'twas nice as hubby sang for me. We didn't do the whole 30 candles- first of all, the package of candles only came in 24 and plus, the cake was a mini-sized one and I doubt they would've all fit anyways! Lol! We didn't come close to finishing it, but 'twas a dope dinner. Thanks hubby!

I wish I could say that my birthday itself ended all good, but I had two major assignments due. 'Course, it didnt' help that hubby and I did some pashal-pashal around the Twin Cities and by the time we got back, I was so not in the mood to do work! Needless to say, I knew that my work would be late, but when the glare of the morning sun blinded my eyes at 5:30am, I was like, "It's morning already?!" I had stayed up for my entire birthday and then some.....and I wasn't even drinkin' up and partying! Lol! 'Tis all good though...I got my assignments in....late, but still in.

Yesterday evening was spent with the youth at church. Turns out that I will be teaching that funky lil' bunch some folk dances for a surprise number for Mother's Day next month. This was actually the first time I had the chance to really talk with these kids and getting to know them was just hilarious. Funny sidenote: when hubby and I first arrived, they automatically started addressing us as "Tito and Tita." Hubby and I were like, "Nah uh! None of this Tito-Tita stuff!" And the more hubby got involved with them during church and playing ball, they started calling him Kuya, but I was still Tita! So my big thing was that if they called me Tita, I'd tickle them or pinch 'em...nice, eh? But last night, the funky bunch (my new name for them) kept correcting each other, "It's ATE, not Tita!" Too funny. Anyways, like I mentioned before, it's always cool to skool young'uns with some culture through folk dancing. This may be my calling here- who knows? Hahaha, yes, we will have our own lil' dance company within the church AND the coolest part would be that we would have total access to a live rondalla! Seeing that the pastor and his father have their own group, Rondalla Filipina, which hubby has become a member of as well. On the real though, these kids learn fast....putting all the laughing and fooling around aside, we pretty much got through Pandanggo Sa Ilaw/Oasioas.

Afterwards, the aunties and uncles had prepared some snacks for the kids: pizza, chips, cookies, and drinks. But as we got upstairs to the kitchen, they all started singing Happy Birthday to me, complete with an ice cream cake! Wow! Talk about a nice, lil' surprise! I totally wasn't expecting anything like that and I'm just grateful to be part of a great church family here in MN. Overall, it was a great birthday! =)

Birthday Shout-Outs

Ah....the 1st of April! Y'know, I just LOVE this time of da year. I mean, spring is just starting, the weather is gettin' warmer, the sun is shining....AND IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!!! (no jokes, peoples...)

Yes, MnM is 3-0 today! I woke up to a beautiful and sunny day. The birds were chirping and them damn crickets were chirping, too! (crickets chirp, yes??) The day has been quite busy thus far. Hubby and I decided to go look at model homes around the area driving, of course, my lil' Honda Civic. We ventured to Mall of America for a bit of shopping and checked out the new Timberland Twister roller coaster. Yes, another roller coaster! Later, chef hubby is going to be preparing a birthday "surf-n-turf"dinner of lobster tails and prime rib....YUM! How special! I've never even ordered lobster at a restaurant before and now I'm going to have some right here at home. Although the day isn't over yet, I actually have two major assignments due in class today. I know, I know...NOT the way I'd like to spend my birthday, but hey, what can I do? I even tried doing these ahead of time, but it just didn't happen. Shiet. But since I went "gallivanting" this afternoon, I'm good to go for the rest of the evening. =)

I have to make some shouts-out to some of the other "fools" who share my birthday...even though I haven't seen a bunch of these people in a grip (as hubby would say), birthday wishes go out to them: J.Madamba, Michelle D. aka Mika, Francis Jay Jimenez and his cousin Ate Cherry.

Much love and thanks for all who've called (yes, ACTUAL phone calls!), left messages, sent e-cards and e-mails...it's much appreciated!
