In No Particular Order...

Seems like ages since the last time I posted...and it's not because there hasn't been anything blog-worthy to share...it's more like the "I should really subscribe to my own internet service instead of relying on a connection to some random neighbor.." Lol. And because I am never sure of how long I will be connected, here's a quick run-down of what's been goin' down with MnM in the past few weeks in no particular order.

Some birthdays have come, gone, and are quickly approaching. Quick shout-outs to Chelle, Ana, Ethan's Mommy, Nico-man, Soleil in MN, Jadon's mama, MY mama...and for tomorrow, my dad and Mr. Kam. My Lolo's 93rd is coming up and so is Bina who's turning 11...wow, how quickly she's grown up! And if Kuya Sam were still with us, he would've turned 38 on the 21st...I miss you much, rest in peace...

The weather has been up and down, rainy and windy, sunny and clear, but always bone-chilling cold in the night. Thankfully we haven't had any terrorizing storms as of late and I can only hope that we're done with 'em. I've succumbed to being that sucker for not making it out to the beach for a walk/jog because of the cold, BUT I did buy myself a balance ball so I could still get my exercise on at home. Unfortunately, I got hit with body aches, headaches, coughing, sore throat, and runny nose earlier in the week...went to work ANYWAY, but paid for it midweek. Had to go home early on Tuesday and was out the entire day on Wednesday. I nursed whatever I had with chicken soup (thanks Mom!), tea, NYQUIL (knocks you the f-out!), and good ole' fashioned (and much needed)sleep. I must've been out for 20+ hours! I'm good to go and I'm up and about now...being sick SO bites.

School has been...gosh, what's the word? Um...challenging. I haven't been feeling the love lately...not sure if it's the love of teaching that's waning or if it's the kids. As tough as my kids have been in the past and despite the not-so-good days, I've always felt a connection with my kids early on in the school year. But as it is- five months now- there ain't one to speak of...and it saddens me. I don't feel like I'm getting through to these kids and to be quite frank, 3/4 of them are spoiled with bad attitudes up the wazoo! I had two really bad weeks in a row- not one day was a good one- and I just got fed up. Last Thursday, the entire class practiced being silent. That's right, S-I-L-E-N-T. Plus, they had so much work to do that they didn't have time to speak. Call it harsh punishment or whatever, these kids deserved what they got and all I gotta say is that they had better learned from it. Or else. Can you believe it, but I'm already looking forward to summer vacation?! (*On one of those bad days, I got a call from Nico. His mom didn't know he had called me, but here we were having the funniest conversation! He had called to see how I'm doing and to tell me that he missed me. Aw, did I feel loved or what?! If only he knew how much his call cheered me up! Love that kid!)

In the news: the Sunset! Yessir, my hood has been making it on the news as of late. Sometime last week, there were two incidents involving the MUNI streetcars- 1) a car was hit as it was backing out, apparently didn't notice or see the approaching streetcar...nevermind that it's BIG, LONG, LOUD, and ORANGE...2) a man fell off the boarding area, got caught underneath, AND was dragged for twenty blocks....TWENTY! And here's my most recent that freaks the hell outta me- a body of man was found covered beneath some sand at Ocean Beach. If ya'll are familiar with the parking lot, you know that they are numbered. Well, the body was found closest to #17...nevermind the fact that is the exact spot that I pass each time I go walking. Gives me the creeps...OH, and just the other night, the familiar sounds of the police helicopters were roaming above, probably with searchlights on. Nice.

Other random stuff...bought the cutest boots at DSW only to find out that they're not the most comfortable. (and yes, I DID try them on and walked around in them at the store!) My Apu is in the hospital AGAIN. Seems like she's been in and out every month... Been watching a bunch of DVDs lately: Bend It Like Beckham, A Lot Like Love, Shakespeare in Love, and Malena. Finished reading the Darlington pick, "Eat Love Pray." A tough memoir to stomach because of the issues with divorce and love of self...it was almost as if I was reading about myself in many parts. I also reread "God's Blogs" because it's a quick read and yet, its short excerpts speak volumes. I've just started on "Atonement," but I'm getting impatient because I want to see the movie already. Attended Michael's art showing at BacioCafe last Sunday bringing along with me Jen, Andrew, and son Joshua. Had my unfortunate nightmare again that had plagued me for so long in the past...wondered WHY and WHAT triggered me to have it...and decided it was because I had to pay yet another final invoice to my freakin' lawyer AND the fact that it's been a year since my townhome in Woodbury was foreclosed. Speaking of home, my lil' place is getting cozier and now that I've got myself a microwave (it's red!), life is good. Lastly, I'm still fascinated by all things Ireland and fancy myself going there and having a romantic love affair with a pub singing local with the accent that just melts my heart, but for now, the dream must be set aside for the time being. Sometimes the saying, "We'll always have what we had" just doesn't cut it, but if it's all there is to it, then I guess it'll have to do...

Ho-Hum Weekend

I hope ya'll are keeping dry, safe, and warm during these stormy days. Da Bay has been hit with monster rains and intense winds powerful enough to split and uproot trees. The damage of the aftermath near my neck of the woods is eerie- branches scattered everywhere, gigantic trees split down the center, and leaves covering the roads like freshly fallen snow.

Friday morning's drive to work practically gave me a stomach ache. It reminded me of the Minnesota winters and traveling in the snow. Not only was I decked out for the weather (heavy jacket, boots, gloves, scarf, and hat), but driving in the torrential rain gave me the same exact feeling as we'd travel down those slick snow-covered roads in Woodbury, MN. Being surrounded by frozen lakes on either side of the road, my stomach churned with anxiety and with fervent prayers that we would make it safely to our destination. All it would take was one slip that could send our car sliding out of control off the road and into the lake. Of course, if the lake wasn't completely frozen over, then into the bone-chilling water we would go! This worrisome feeling, this panic-stricken paranoia, this fear of a tragic slow death by drowning consumed me to the point where I would feel sick to my tummy. It never failed each time we ventured out...and this is how I felt last Friday on my way to work. Okay, so I'm not surrounded by frozen lakes, but the trees that line the sides of the roads hovered ominously. Their branches were swaying so violently that I was half-expecting all of them to crash down...which some of them did! My prayers during my lil' commute was this: "Please God, let me get to work safely...don't let any trees crash down on my car...please let the tread of my tires be okay so that I don't spin out of control...and please get that ass in back of me to stop tailing me!" Thankfully, I did get to work safely and on time.

The storm didn't let up for the entire day and for many parts of the Bay, that meant no electricity. Fortunately, loss of power didn't affect my fam or me, but we were prepared. Despite the rain, I went to Target after school. As I was browsing, I happened to pass by the flashlight section and it was completely wiped out! Empty!

Saturday's storm was horrid, but in the afternoon, we were treated to a short reprieve. Although the temps were still ass-biting cold (lol...Sis, you like that? Thank Jane for me for that one!), I headed to the beach to check out the waves. My weatherbug was been blinking every so often since yesterday and it warned of high surf and possible flooding. The Great Highway was closed and it was neat to see runners and bikers alike taking advantage of all the free space. (Oh, and just a sidenote: I am not a hardcore runner, nor do I desire to ever be. In fact, I am trying to get out of that mode where the cold weather deters me from walking at all. It's painful at first...having that cold wind in your face and having it cut through your body, but once you get warmed up, the pain slowly dissipates. I often get that guilty feeling when I've decided NOT to go and then I see all these people running their hearts out. But did I feel that guilt seeing hardcore runners out in the storm? Running in that pouring rain...it's maddening, really! It's freaking H-A-R-D-C-O-R-E, that's what it is! But as much as I'd like to continue getting in shape, running in a storm and risking pneumonia is not a priority...) I'll tell you, I love living so close to the beach and hearing the waves is just so calming...BUT, when they say monster waves, they aren't kidding! It's pretty scary....AWESOMELY so. But as I marveled at the sun breaking through the clouds (and after taking a few pics!), I thought about the movie, "The Day After Tomorrow" and how we were in the eye of the storm. With global warming and its adverse effects, the reality of that movie is, in my opinion, a huge possibility. I could go on about that, but I'll save that for another post...

When it's cold and dreary out, all you want to do is stay in bed and cuddle underneath the covers, right? After some hours of putting together a microwave cart and rearranging my kitchen (I don't want to get into that right now...lol), I threw in "Bend It Like Beckham." I've never seen this before, although I've wanted to buy it for sometime. All I knew was that it was a movie about soccer (football!) and how an Indian girl defies her family for her love of the game.

I LOVE this movie! Not only is it a girl empowerment movie, but for many other reasons, too: 1) it has Keira Knightly...I dig her!, 2) the producer is the same one who did "Bride and Prejudice"...there's even a Bollywood scene, too!, 3) they show parts of England and Germany...Europe, a future destination for me, 4) all the soccer/futbol scenes is inspiring...makes me want to run laps (NOT in a storm...) and do situps! and lastly, 5) Jonathan Rhys Meyers...hubba, hubba...the coach from Ireland (helloooo!!!)with the s-e-x-y accent...need I say more?

(I mean...I COULD, but I won't...). LOL...yah, it's official...I'm crazy!

Damn Them All!

...the Internet for keeping me up late last night...

...my new bed for being so comfy that I slept in two more hours than I should have...

...the weather for being so perfect that I HAD to take advantage of it to take a light jog...

...my eagerness to run that I forgot to apply sunblock...shiet, I'm going to pay for that one...

...my stupidity for not bringing any water/Powerade with me...I saw stars again!...

...the corner store with the $5 credit card minimum...dude, I just need a drink so I don't pass out!...

...the corner store (again!) for having the NEW Peanut Butter Twix candy that I had to buy TWO...there goes my workout! Double Damn!...

...the 6 blocks I live from the beach...just when you think the workout is done, there's still that extra distance to get back home...ugh...

...the break that I took after the marathon...the couple of weeks of NOT running has made a huge difference! I feel that I'm almost back to square one...almost. Must....keep...up...with...it...

...the report cards...double, triple, quadruple d-a-m-n...

*Why the hell are these things conspiring against me??? I need a coffee to think this through...LOL!*

The Most Confusing Day...

Today had the potential to be one of those really great days. After an entire day of rain yesterday, I was surprised to wake up to sunny skies. This weather has been so unpredictable lately...even more, it's disillusioning...gads, is that a word? Anyways, as nice as it looked out, it felt freakin' cold.

My bed was delivered today...thanks Mom! Not that I minded sleeping on the couch...it's mighty comfy. I did, however, really hate sleeping on the daybed at my parent's house. The mattress lost its firmness years ago and every move, every turn, every breath, it would creak! Yes, yes, be thankful that I even had anything to sleep on, but still, it wasn't the most comfortable for my already bad back.

So I was supposed to hang out with a friend today...but because of miscommunication via texting (..."miscommunitexting..?"), it went from yes, we're hanging out today to the totally opposite end of the spectrum. Within a few hours time, I seriously thought this person didn't want anything to do with me! WTF went wrong? It all started with a text gone awry...WHY we didn't just call each other up to confirm plans is beyond me! What was supposed to be a cool day to hang out turned out to be back-and-forth texts from hell. Lol...I laugh about it now, but at the time, each time I'd get a text, my reaction would be like, "Where the hell did THAT come from?"

I tell you, as convenient texting is, it's impossible to distinguish tone. Just like instant messaging, right? A completely innocent text could easily be construed for something totally different than from what you originally meant it to mean. That is exactly what happened today...and it wasn't cute. It was damn near confusing and I'll admit, disheartening.

I decided to see this person anyways...and we both admitted that we were confused as to WHAT exactly went down. After talking about it and laughing it off the next minute, it hit me how much time we wasted all because of miscommunitexting...ha, I should coin that term...that is, if it hasn't been invented yet! It was a useless and unnecessary "argument"...if we can even call it that. While it could've been a great day to hang out, the day wasn't completely wasted. We ended up going to dinner and laughing about the whole thing over drinks. Still...for that brief period, I was in a complete state of confusion.

The lesson? Do not rely on texting...CALL the person up. It will avoid any unnecessary miscommunication.

And hell, it will probably save time and heartache in the end...LOL!
School Update

School on Friday was "interesting." It was apparent that everyone was on edge and more alert as usual. Turns out that employee was "let go," but something tells me that this isn't the end. While the school staff has not been formally told about what's going on, I did talk to one of the higher-ups of Administration...and I do not agree with how everything was handled. First of all, it's been established that this employee has not been taking her perscribed medication. This has resulted in major mood shifts and bouts of paranoia where she believes that everyone is against her. I wasn't aware, but earlier in the year, her husband passed away. She had been seen talking to herself, but some are thinking that she is talking to her deceased spouse. She has also been warning people to stop bugging her husband because he's so busy...this showing that perhaps she has not accepted or is still trying to deal with the loss of her husband. With this mental and emotional instability, I do believe that her presence at school puts the safety of the students and staff in jeopardy.

At the same time, I firmly believe that she is in need of some serious help and support....her being fired (in the presence of a police officer) doesn't make matters better. She probably feels betrayed after having worked at school for so many years, too. I think suspension would've been better...give her a mini-vacation, use that time to hold an emergency staff meeting, and really look into any possible solutions. But now, on top of her instability, we're thinking anger, bitterness, and possibly hate. Okay, they asked for her keys upon terminating her, but does that guarantee that she won't be back? That's what I'm worried about.

Thankfully we have this three-day holiday...maybe emotions will cool down, maybe not. All I know is that Admin could've handled this better. As thankful as I am knowing that she won't be around the students, I am saddened for her. I continue to pray that she gets the proper help through the right channels and that she will not take her anger out on anyone.

MnM's Crib

I spent the night at my place for the very first time on Friday...I was stoked! As I slowly move the rest of my belongings in, the place gets a tad cozier each time. Spending the night was an impulsive decision and I wasn't quite prepared...for example, it would've been PERFECT if I had brought my lil' portable heater because it was DAMN COLD. Lol!

I woke up with the intention of going running (since I'm so close to the beach and all...), but dude, it was raining! Rain the entire day isn't a total loss- to be honest, it's actually romantic. Just makes you want to stay in your pj's all day lounging in bed...

Blockbuster Night

Not that I go to Blockbuster anymore...hell, I don't even do the NetFlix thing...but I have built up my own lil' DVD collection and tonight was the perfect night to hang out and watch. While I may not have my own TV and DVD player, my laptop has served its purpose well in that department. I popped in "Best Man"- always a good laugh out loud comedy with some drama and a kick ass soundtrack. I can't tell you how many times I've watched this movie, but somehow, I haven't gotten sick of it.

"Love Actually" was my other choice. I swear, I love this movie! It would seem perfect to watch this during Christmas...and I'll probably watch it again next month. But man..."...love is all around me..." could be somewhat depressing. But not as depressing as it was LAST Christmas! No, there really is nothing for me to be depressed about simply because this year, 2007, has been MY year...and 2008 is going to be even better.

It's such a feel good movie...and it gets me every time. I ESPECIALLY love that one scene with Keira Knightly where her husband's best friend comes to the door with all of the written signs that basically declares his love for her. And he does it without any hope or expectation in return...he does it because it's Christmas (and at Christmas, you tell the truth...). It melts my heart! Make me wish that someone could look at me the way he looks at her...

When I first watched "Love Actually" for the first time, I remember thinking that there were too many little stories to follow...but it just goes to show how LOVE can be felt on so many different levels and capacities.

Anyways...with the Christmas holidays coming up, it makes me wonder what things I should share "because it's Christmas." I would definitely be putting myself out there...and yet, I should do so without hope or agenda. No matter what the outcome, I should take the chance...just because.

Pinch! Punch! The 1st of the Month!

Happy new month, everyone! I'm seriously missing my niece and nephew...I feel like I haven't seen them in AGES! Everytime a new month arrives, I try my best to "pinch 'em and punch 'em." Sounds abusive, I know, but it's not what you think! lol....geez.

Anyways, I'm pretty excited for this weekend to come simply because I"ll be seeing the kiddies. They'll be coming to this side of the Bay to help me move- hooray!

Where Does the Time Go?
MnM's lil' update...in no particular order

Okay, so it's been a couple of weeks since I last updated. It really got crazy after Back To School night...I got deathly sick (that's what it felt like anyways...), had a few dinners that I just HAD to attend, and oh yes, on top of that, still go to work. I did leave work early one day, but I basically tried to be a trooper and ride it out. My kids were, surprisingly, very good on the days that I was sick. Works wonders when you ASK them to be on their best behavior...ironically when I started feeling better, they didn't bother to be quite as cooperative as before. Ha...and so goes another day in my class.

Marathon training. Shit. Because of said sickness, I lost a good week of training. I always expect to get sick in the beginning of the school year. Getting used to a new set of kids' germs is taxing, but after the initial whatever it is I had, I'm good for the rest of the year. Training, on the other hand, has slowed down. It's coming down to the wire...October 21 is just around the corner! I'm not totally buggin' about it because I'm not doing it for the time, but still, I want to do my best and make it over that finish line in one piece. Maybe I'm whining about it too much, but after I finish, I know for a fact that it will be a major accomplishment that I will be proud to have completed. Pray for me, ya'll!

So....Desperate Housewives, eh? I'm not a fan, only watched a few episodes when it first debuted, but wow...that comment. It's ignorance and downright f*cked up. Of course, had it been any other cultural group, there would be outrage nonetheless, but man. My cousin in Texas took the opportunity to call the local radio station who were discussing the matter. 'Course everything is recorded and then played back, right? When things aired, all the comments basically reflected the whole "what is everyone so mad about?" because the Philippines is "a country of whores". WTF? This is in freakin' Texas....good Lord. By the time they aired my cousin's comments, she said that hers was the ONLY comment against the episode. That's pretty freakin' sad. Makes me sad for our country...and yah, totally peeved. Sometimes, I swear, I think it would be better to live elsewhere where there aren't so many ignorant and close-minded idiots.

MySpace. Lol! I can't believe I'm going to freely admit this, but that site is so damn addicting! Not that I have hundreds or thousands of friends...in fact, I only have 25, most of whom are my younger cousins. It really is a great way to keep in touch with them and to see what they are up to. Like D had mentioned in his blog, I, too, am constantly checking if I've got comments or whatnot. Plus, I love updating my moods and the music that plays...lol...it's pathetic!

Apartment hunting...sucks. But it seems like it may be in the stars for me sometime soon...keeping my fingers crossed!

Dating....LOL....yah, that TOTALLY SUCKS! Okay, I'll admit it now...it's been "interesting" to say the least. I'm not adverse to meeting people for some Starbucks, but all I gotta say is that if YOU ask ME out...and then I have to pay for EVERYTHING? You are a waste of my time...a total DUD! I want to be impressed...is that so much to ask for? Apparently! Living the single life among the rest of my married/happily taken friends has, I've found, provided much entertainment in their eyes. Lol...it's all good! Just as in my (failed)marriage, it's all about living and learning. And oh yes, it's gotta be about having FUN, too! lol...still, no more duds! Can't a gal be swept off her feet???

Fleet Week. I love watching the Blue Angels! Went to the Marina Green, met up with my sis and family, and enjoyed the airshow....was totally awesome! I haven't been for a while and to be among the crowds of people was exciting. Not sure if I can do the crowds all the time, but to hear all the gasping, the oooh and aaaahhh, was fun. It was a beautiful day in the city, perfect to be out and about. Pictures to come later...

Back to the apartment hunting thing...I was reading the paper today and saw how airfare out of the country is dropping for certain places. My goal is to be out of the house by Christmas...BUT, if I push that out of the way, might I be able to head out to, say, Europe for a week??? 'Tis funny, too.....airfare to Ireland is the cheapest! Ironic!

We shall see....

Randomness

*I should be sleeping right now...considering that my first day of school is tomorrow! (current time: 11:58pm)

*I've got a few butterflies in my tummy for tomorrow...egads, what am I going to wear?

*Got a mani/pedi today...always nice to get pampered once in a while.

*I'm in love with...UGLY BETTY! I never got to watch this show 'cuz it coincided with Smallville night, but watched the first couple of episodes on DVD. Love this show!

*Looking forward to buying "Heroes" Season I on DVD.

*FASTRAK is awesome!

*People who have supported me financially with TNT are freakin' awesome, too.

*Can't believe how quickly this summer flew by...and how many things I was able to do.

And oh yes, my top two favorites:

*Got a root canal today...and the only thing that hurt was the fact that my insurance through school doesn't pay jack! And if you can believe it, I almost fell asleep in the chair 'cuz I was so tired from waking up to catch the lunar eclipse.

**MySpace is addicting...LOL!

Did You Feel It???

At approximately 4:42am this morning, an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.2 rocked the Bay.

And I know this because I've been up on a coffee high unable to sleep and felt it myself. (damn those small cups at IHOP...makes you want to keep refilling...)

Because I wanted to make sure that what I felt was, indeed, an earthquake, I quickly went online. I checked out the USGS site and within a few minutes, there it was. As I scanned the info on the magnitude and epicenter, etc, I noticed a "Did You Feel It?" link. It basically asks your location by zip code, what you observed, was there any damage, and so on...after I clicked to submit my info, it lists other responses. There were 1,318! Holy smokes! These reports hailed from all over the Bay Area...and as I write this, it's now jumped to 2,293! Wowzers...that many people were up?

I'll tell you one thing. Last night, I had this inkling of a feeling that an earthquake would hit.

Although the earthquake itself was over within a second or two, it didn't stop my heart from beginning to race. I didn't even have time to react! You tend to HEAR an earthquake before it happens and when I heard it, my stomach tightened up really quick. Even though I continued to sit in my computer chair, my body tensed and I braced myself for more. A huge part of me dreaded its continuation, but thankfully, it didn't. I know that my eyes darted to shoes 'cuz if it called for it, I'd have them on in a flash. That stems from the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake...I was really paranoid with all of the aftershocks that I kept my shoes at the foot of my bed. If I had to quickly get out of the house for whatever reason, at least I'd have some shoes on.

It's funny because when I first moved to Minnesota and experienced the tornado siren warnings, I always spouted that I'd rather go through an earthquake vs a tornado any day. I still stick to that. But I honestly think that whenever an earthquake hits, just like this morning, my heart will race as it did in 1989. In fact, the tightness in my stomach is still there! Even though it's over, there's a jumpiness that remains. It'll eventually go away...but still.

Then of course, y'know what we'll see in the news today...that is, if it makes it in at all? It'll be all over the "we're due for a big one!" story. Happens all the time...

If IT happens, it happens. I'd like to think that we are all better prepared in one way or another. Will it be scary? Probably. Will MnM freak out? Hopefully not...I'd like to think I'd keep my cool.

But geez...can it at least wait until AFTER the midnight release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows???

Old Addition

Can you tell that MnM has a lot of time on her hands??? Hah, I swear, this has got to be the most I've blogged in a long time...'tis nice to be back in blogworld...gives me something to do.

In any case, I've re-added the GuestMap which you'll see represented by a globe on the right-hand side. Click it and pin your location! I was just reading J and Rho's blogs and thought I'd bite off them. =) Thanks guys!

Indulge me, people!

Wedding Update

Just got an email from the bride & groom and turns out that they are requesting attending guests to incorporate their color scheme (brown, mango, cream) into our attire. I guess my black and white dress won't do...back to the mall I go!

5 more days...
